Description

This is the winner (most creative) of the contest: Halloween Hoo Doo Competition by *dreamarian :icondreamarian:

Media: Caran d'ache watercolour coloured pencils and black nankin ink.
Size: A3 140 lb canson paper.

The great aspect of a contest is that it inspires us to draw or paint themes never done before. I gotta confess that this is the first time that I ever did an artwork based on Halloween.

Ok... I'm from Brazil and we don't have here all that tradition! Fine, but since I was 6 years old I've been hearing about Halloween. In elementary school we used to wear vampire and other beastie costumes on October 31st. I also remenber the image of carved pumpkins in my mind since that good old time.

Nowadays children come to my front door and ask for candies. It happens every single year.

I wanted to put in this drawing most of my favorite caracters of Halloween. I always loved costumes of vampires, skeletons and Frankensteins, and I always loved chics dressed up like devils... they get sexy... hahaha!!
The caracters of Scarecrow, Ghosts and the Death Angel scared me a lot in my childhood. The same would have happened if I imagined myself getting into an abandoned house. The idea of it been haunted was enough to keep me off of it!!

Time has passed and fear has disappeared (at least a little bit, lol!!) but this past memories are very pleasant.

The whole drawing is based on 5 teenagers trying to have some candies and, of course, some fun, They went to the "Old House on the Hill", that is famous to be haunted. Because these boys and girls have a very "creative" imagination, things get a little bit scaring. You decide if what they see is true or just a trick from their own imagination.
As you all can see, that's not very confortable to go to a house surrounded by a cemetery... not at night...
I like detailed arts. That's why I put so many details, like for exemple the dropped pumpkin basket full of candies (it belongs to the green fairy girl). And "Yeah"! The skeleton boy lost his right hand glove (pleople have already asked me that).

Well, that's it! I do prefer to work with watercolours, oil and acrylic paint. As this is a drawing contest I chose to use coloured pencils. There's a long time I don't work with them. But this artwork showed me that it's good to use again such cool pencils. Contours were done with nankin ink. It took me two weeks to do it. Most of the time was spent creating the whole scene. Inking and colouring took me just few days.

I hope you guys like it!
